Default Need advice on hood liner

I had to remove my hood liner today and I'm sure most of you can figure out why. But I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to not replacing it. Engine noise isn't an issue and I know that it is designed to smother an engine fire. I keep the engine bay very clean and have no plans on FI. Or leaving the oil cap off again. All that may not matter. I don't know. I guess my biggest concern is the paint on the hood eventually fading or cracking over time due to the increased heat. I'm not opposed to replacing it if I really need to, I would just like to not if there are no serious consequences.

It's not made to smother a fire. It's made for noise reduction and as a barrier to protect the hood's paint. I've read a few people removing it, but have no first-hand experience.

Oh. I thought I had read somewhere on here that in the event of an engine fire the round tabs would melt allowing the liner to blanket the engine. I could be mistaken. I tend to start skiming thru stuff after an hour+ of reading.

Also, I just noticed that it is begining to separate from the frame in a couple of places.

How big of a concern is this?

I've read that the liner has caught on fire before! I've also read that some of the long time members (like S2000 mechanic Billman250) have removed it without any effect.

Also, fwiw, the CR doesn't come with a liner. As for the paint cracking, wouldn't the engine bay paint crack also?

^no. The heat rises up, so naturally due to convection the hood will get a LOT hotter than the sides/engine bay etc. Also, I could be wrong, but is the engine bay paint clear coated? That might make things more prone to cracking (thicker).

Ive seen first hand the effects of removing the hood liner on a different car, Im sure its different for diff. cars, but from what I saw, I'd never do it. just my 2cents

mine has been off for over a year with no problems, although i dont have to worry too much about the heat with the nice vents in my hood.
