Thumbs up OEM Hardtop Protectant Tape?

Hello once again,

Recently I scooped up an OEM Hardtop locally. It came with all the bells and whistles yet sadly it was the wrong color...therefore it required a respray.

Here is where my question comes in, when I was at the body shop they noticed two pieces of "Protectant" Tape (#10 and #11 on the Honda Parts Catalog.)

I was just wondering where exactly these two pieces of clear tape go...

-are they even needed?
-If so how are they are put on?
-anyone has pictures of how it should look once it is done?

Thanks...Stay well.

They go along the outer edge of the hardtop, the surfaces that touch the windshield frame weatherstripping, you will see there are two levels one for each section of tape. My hardtop never had them when I bought it (used), and there were no wearing issues on the painted surface, I think they just protect the paint in those areas where the top contacts the weatherstripping. The price Honda wants for two pieces of clear tape isn't worth it IMO.
