Oil consumption
Changed them both, after the Pennzoil I had to go to town on a bunch of leaks. Not sure if the oil caused it, or just coincidence, but my TCT rattle went away when I went back to Castrol. This was at around 138,000 miles. I'll probably get laughed at for this but I think seals, and metal gets used to a certain type of oil. Because 0w-40 0w-30 5w-30 and 10w-30 all burned at right around 800 - 1,000 miles/qt, the only synthetic oil that didn't burn at that rate was the oil that the car has ran for most of it's life. Regular 10w-30 edge, which is around 1,500 - 1,600 miles/qt, that and apparently synthetic blend. Well 240 miles now, still right where I left it so I consider this a good sign.
280 miles now. I know it still burn some but before every 2 or 3 stops I'd smell oil. So far it's more like once every 5 or 6 stops. And it's only a tiny whiff, instead of having to smell it for like 5 seconds at a time.
I usually drop a hash mark after 300 miles, but so far it's exactly where I left it after the oil change. Which has never happened before since I owned the car.

Was chugging synthetic oil between 800-1300 miles a quart. Switched to castrol gtx high mileage 10w40 synthetic blend. 200 miles since the oil change haven't burned a drop yet. Just wanted to share.
I was doing 5k mile OCI so I figure I rather use cheaper oil if I'm going to pour 9 quarts of oil per OCI. I'm still going to do 5k OCI, I don't think it'll be a problem with a synthetic blend.

Castrol and Valvoline full syn are pretty much the 2 oils off the shelf I stick to in this engine, which seem to retain their integrity the longest and get consumed the least. Non synthetics typical have the least usage. So if you have a pretty severe usage problem such as the OP, not only is non syn cheaper to top off constantly, but it doesn't disappear as quick. You will want to change it more often however, say 3-3.5k instead of 5-6k if your trying to maintain the engine as long as possible.
