I just bought a 2000 AP1 and checked the oil and it was below the minimum mark it was 1/4" of an inch below the bottom end of the dipstick lucky no funny noises from the engine.

Be sure to check both sides of the dipstick. I have seen one side show full and the other side never hit the oil. If one side shows full the other side shows low, ALWAYS go with the low side and add oil.

I've never seen that kind of discrepancy. Must be some human error on checking properly. The shape of the oil pan/dip stick angle will show almost one x mark from front to back difference in normal circumstances. That's if you get a extremely clean and accurate dipstick pull after the engine oil has settled for several hours after being run.

Well I've read it on here multiple times over the years.
Here is just one post
Even zeroptzero says to check both sides, post #2.

And so does Billman, check out post #11

Be sure to check both sides of the dipstick.
