Adding New Oil at 650 miles
I know this has been asnswered before but can't get a real handle on what oil to put. I just got past my break in period and I'm now at 650 miles. However, the oil has dropped significantly as other posts stated. I am down to the last X on the dipstick so about a quart was burned off. What oil should I put in and what weight. I know it has to be regular oil NOT synthetic. Someone told me about Mobil 1 Clean engine oil 10W30. What would you all reccomend??? Many Thanks
Supposedly Honda oil is just re-badged regular Mobil dino oil. Just use regular 10W-30 Mobil Drive Clean dino oil. Should cost less than $1.50/qt. That being said any quality 10W30 dino oil will work just fine. A lot of owners like Castrol. Try and keep your oil level as close to the H mark as possible, don't let it drift down to the L mark. Everything is better when your closer to H mark vs. being down at the L mark.
Wait till 10,000 miles before switching over to synthetic oil.

I have only put Castrol 10W-30 in all my Honda's. My 85 Civic got it, my 91 Accord still gets it, and my new S is about to get it.
Oil is pretty much oil but I like sticking to one blend that I know works for sure.

Something does not sound right. If you are down to the bottom x in just 650 miles I would say (1) you may be mis-reading the dip stick... it's very easy to do with very clean oil if the lighting isn't good, (2) but if you are, you would be down more than one quart of oil... if I recall correctly (3) but even if it's just one quart, that's still not normal... I have an S2000 that is one of the higher oil users and mines goes through a quart every 1,700 miles or so --- if you are using it three times faster, that's very bad and you need to discuss it with the dealership, (4) it's possible but very unlikely that it did get a complete fill up when new... did you check it as soon as you bought it? As I said in the beginning something isn't right and you need to watch this situation very closely. Are there oil spots on the ground where you park?
