preventative soft top patching?
I patched mine as a preventative measure. When I get home I'll snap a pick if I remember.
I purchased a small canvas bag at the local craft shop for $1.50 and a box of black dye. Used the whole package of dye highly concentrated in water, and let the tan canvas patches I cut from it (2 of them, about 2 or 3" square) soak for a few hours.
After I washed them off until water ran clear, and let them dry completely. Then used GOOP to secure them to the inside of the top on those potential wear spots and let dry overnight before moving the top.
The goop is a good choice as it never dries solid. Very easy process!

You won't have trouble with this, it's an effective bit of preventative maintenance. From the inside I could just barely see a hint of light through thin spots on either side of the car in those areas, but nothing was visible from the outside. now it's plenty solid.
Under $10 is what you'll spend getting the goop and canvas or other material, and don't be afraid if it's not a color match because you really can't see in that space without a light anyway. My canvas pieces have a very dark tone, almost slightly purple-ish around the cut edges because of the dye.
