Thumbs up Question about the CDV

Sup guys, just wondering for 04+ models that have the clutch delay valve, I know there are options of removing it, but is there anything else you can do to somewhat remove it's annoying clutch delayed engagement? Would a lightweight flywheel/racing clutch make a difference?

Thanks!

well a lot of people do remove it but after they still get some slipping of the clutch. this is caused by the stock clutch does not have enough bite esp with the heavier ap2 flywheel..... so best bet remove the CDV and get an after market clutch and flywheel then you will be happy..

My clutch slipped MORE after removing the CDV with the stock setup. The stock pressure plate is the root of most problems. Do not remove cdv until you replace at least the pressure plate if not the entire setup.

There's a guy in socal, turbos2k, who is attempting to mod the cdv so that the delay is less. Other than that, the only way to get rid of the delay is to ditch the cdv.

I disagree with the previous posts. I removed it, and it grabs faster, and without slip. Many others will agree if you do a search as well. The only reason I can see why people would slip more after removing the cdv is consistent sloppy shifting (missing the shift points, not rev matching) or lots and lots of track time and fast shifts (at which point you'd probably get an aftermarket setup anyway). Drove an S with a cdv not too long ago, and it almost hit redline because the clutch wasn't grabbing during fast shifts.

You'll hear a lot about how the heavier ap2 flywheel comes into play, but
1. it's only 50% heavier,
2. flywheel weight isn't really a factor when it comes to whether a clutch can grab onto it or not. My physics has gotten rusty over the years, but I'm pretty sure it's not a major factor. Torque output is, which is why you see PP's rated by how much torque they can handle. If you were trying to stop the flywheel like a brake, then weight would matter, but you're not; you're trying to match speed with it.

I've driven a non-CDV ap2 with OEM pressure plate & flywheel and it grabbed as hard as my ap1.
