Default Question on Invoices

Hey guys, I recently got some parts for my car used. Only problem is that I never received any receipts or invoices for the transactions as they were dealt with in person with cash transactions. Is it possible to request or create invoices for insurance purposes? I'd like to get the parts covered as modifications, but I need a proof of purchase so I don't know if I need the seller to make an invoice (using excel or something) under their name since it isn't under a company.

If that's not possible, are there any other ways to get a receipt or proof of purchase as they only show as withdrawals of cash under my bank statement. Thanks again in advance for any replies.

I don't even think your insurance will take that paper from person(even its from seller).

Your bank statement will show you that you took out cash but it doesn't say where that cash went.

You know what I mean?
I don't think there is way you can approve that in your situation. Unless you have a buddy who does have a shop that can make fake value invoice for you.

Your best bet is to first call your insurance company and ask them what they will need in case something happened to your car for you to be fully covered on these parts.

For my insurance company, Country Companies, they require the part to be OEM since they will not cover Aftermarket parts without buying an additional Rider Plan to add on to the original insurance plan

Get a receipt from the seller (just write one in Word describing the parts, amounts, terms, date, and identifying the seller), take pics of the parts both on and off, and stick in your insurance file. Also do what joeIls2k says and find out what your carrier requires (if it's performance or audio pieces 'n parts, it may increase your rates).

I work for an insurance company, and can only speak from my experiences.

In most cases, if you have proof of ownership, and coverage in your policy to cover modifications, you should be good to go.(most policies will only cover a very small amount of after-market parts, ask you agent how to get coverage for extra parts. It might cost a little more but it would be a bummer to get caught without it if you needed it.)
This can be pictures ect. In most cases, if the adjuster trusts you and doesn't find anything else fishy you will get your money as long as you have some proof that you actually did have the parts you claimed. The first step to legitimize yourself in this regard is paying for the increased coverage. A lot of people think that insurance companies try to err on the side of not paying out enough, when in most cases they pay out too much. If you really want to cover yourself take pictures, and maybe a video of everything on your car. People use video a lot to record stuff for homeowner's policies to record all of the possessions that they have and would lose if there were a fire or theft.

I'll probably take pics of the coils tomorrow getting installed and then I'll start making invoices along with the seller's info. Thanks for the info.

BTW, some people mentioned that their insurance became null and void after they asked about aftermarket parts. Is this true? Kind of intimidates me about asking my insurance company about the mods I have on the car currently.

There isn't really a clear cut answer for you. Some insurance companies are most strict then others. If you apply for more coverage telling them you have aftermarket parts that you want covered, it usually isnt a big deal. Where most start to have a problem is when it gets excessive like the guy who makes his truck look like a monster truck.

And they will charge you more if you tell them you want to add $2000 worth of coverage for aftermarket parts, but its because you now have more coverage that they are liable for, not because they assume you bought a $2000 turbo kit and are going to launch yourself into a pole the fallowing week. /run on sentence

So, the buyer is going to make up an "invoice"?
