Default Question about insurance companies?

hey guys, i just had a question about insurance policies. my friend has a 1994 miata, and she hit a deer a few hours ago. it mess up the front bumper, smashed the headlight, and torn the soft top. she has full coverage on her car, collision, comp, and liability through state farm.

so my question is, when the claims adjuster comes out to figure out the damages, where exactly does he get the parts or prices for parts? would he just go to a mazda dealership to get new oem parts/prices, or can he go to a junk yard for parts/prices?

i just heard about the junk yard thing, i didnt even think about it before. but if that happened to my car, i wouldnt want junk yard parts/prices to fix it. does how old the car is have anything to do with it?

any of you guys have any experiences with your insurance companies like that?

Junkyard. It's a 15 year old car. The just need to replace parts with equivalent parts. This is standard practice and listed in the fine print of the contract that you signed. It's also a reason why older cars are cheaper to insure most of the time.

You have to check with your insurance companies. Some companies will use old or generic parts. My insurance company, Wawanesa, specifies only new OEM replacement parts for example.

i thought in some states its not legal to use non-oem parts. that may just be for the newer cars though...

i believe the answer you are searching for is in here for the state farm guy. adjusters have programs that lists part prices and auto body repair prices. i want to say there are a couple adjusters on here.

Unless you've purchased an OEM parts endorsement, you'll either get junkyard parts or aftermarket parts (look just like an OEM part, but made by another company like Keystone). If the aftermarket part doesn't fit, they'll try another one just like it. If the 2nd one doesn't fit, then you can usually negotiate an OEM part.

used part at local value.

sounds like your buddy's miata will be total, go to miata.net for more info.

most of the NA owner don't even bother with full coverage, the insurance payout is not even worth the sh-t coverage

For a Miata of that vintage and the damage you described, there's a possibility she may have the car totaled by the insurance company because it may cost them less than fixing it.
