it seems as a general rule of thumb that a single will flow better than a dual, due to the straight back flow of a single setup. with all dual exhaust there are more bends and the addition of an extra pipe may have a tendency to interrupt the flow of exhaust gas.

as far as using sizing to compensate for a dual setup i wouldn't be able to tell you a specific ratio, because backpressure and exhaust gas velocities are affected by so many variables.

in general, the same size single will outperform a dual setup, though they tend to be generally louder than duals because they dont have as much piping to run through, and an extra muffler.

Single will be louder and will get you more power because of less restriction...but please understand that these cars are not 8-cylinders and your gain will me very minimal.

Dual exhaust is more restricted and is not as loud, but (I personally think) they sound a lot better.

Don't buy an exhaust if you're not FI and you're looking for power. As far as I'm concerned, without FI the only reason for exhaust on this car is for sound/looks.

excellent point. unless you are dealing with standalone management and tuning for every mod you make, you won't see more than a few hp by switching a catback - and that's being optimistic.

most track junkies will run a single exhaust n/a just for the weight savings.

I agree with the posts above, if your looking for light + most power go single. I believe the berk 63mm dual has the same flow as a compatible single 80mm though, you would have to check there sights that's just off the top of my head. I have a home made berk style system with Magnaflow, I think I gained some but like everyone is going to tell you, if you want HP go FI. I just like the sound.

so anyone with a decent n/a build should just run the stock exhaust? i don't think so.

i ran the stock exhaust to get a fix it ticket written off...i could feel the restriction choking the car on my setup.

i plan on only getting a test-pipe, single 70mm exhaust and tuning it with e-manage ultimate. should help me a little bit and i'll be able to adjust my fuel & timing maps to get the most out of the exhaust setup.
