Aren't roll bars dangerous without a helmet for this very reason?

Nope it's the case if you don't have a helmet and the bar padded properly. Even with harnesses, your head and limbs are going to move a lot in a crash. And I don't know many people who drive around in properly fastened harnesses on the street (which would be dangerous from a visibility aspect).

if you have a roll cage and crash... your heads going to hit the cage and its probably going to be VERY VERY messy.
im assuming this is only the case if you dont have proper seats and harnesses, yes?

roll cages are ment to use with a helmet. its not street use for the following reason. if you crash your head is going to hit the cage even with proper seating.

I wouldn't want to ride in a roll cage equipped car unless I was wearing a helmet!

mugen cage will allow you to slide the seat all the way back, all you have to do is not install the rear forward downtube which a lot of people do for the drivers side. Mugen cage costs about 2000- though IIRC. I built a custom cage (see build thread), very similar to the mugen, and i have both seats all the way back
