just bought a new S2000. I would like to increase its power. Can I reach 280-290 HP on the engine with out using a Turbo or supercharge?

What parts do I need to reach this HP?

If i used a testpipe will i get the check engine sign?

Thank you
Not no, but hell no. you are curretly at ~205whp, typical bolt-ons (i/h/e/hondata reflash) will get you 225-230whp on a dynojet (other dynos will be higher or lower).

but i noticed that your name is boostp, so you must be thinking boost - the only way you will get to 290whp. kraftwerks (jackson racing) will release a 350whp s/c soon for the DBW '06-'08 models for $6.5k

boost is probably the only way to get that much hp. even a 2.5L stoker kit wont make that high hp. maybe if u get some cams, full exhaust system, itbs, and a great tune you may reach that power level. at that point you will have spent a TON of money.

might as well go FI

You do know that most mods will void the warrenty on your new 08. For the engine anyway (related mods). Honda dealers very but most of the ones I have been to have been real hard asses about mods. If you do mod your car make sure you can make it look stock again otherwise it could cost you some $ if you have problems.

I have a magazine here, stating that a catback and intake will give you a ''BIG'' 4.4whp.

K&N FIPK intake and Fujitsubo legalis R catback.

Magazine = Dsport, January 2008, page 40

I forgot...

Stock = 208.3whp and 143.2lb-ft
Intake = 212.5whp and 146.9lb-ft
Intake + catback = 212.7whp and 147.1lb-ft

All that to the wheel.

You can also add ITBs, TB, and VAFC probably good for an additional 15 whp.
I'm pretty sure you're gonna need an EMS to run ITB's, plus a tune will run you about a grand. Dont forget supporting mods.

What you need to do is relax, forget about your stupid little horsepower goal and start thinking about important stuff. You should worry about getting fresh fluids throughout (tranny, engine, diff, etc.), maybe grab some nice brake pads (bbk not required, yes I splurged for um), a good set of coilovers w/ a fresh alignment. For a little extra oomph with a nice growl grab a aem v2 intake.

Thats my take on it.

yeah 231whp is still only about ~25 whp increase assuming you had a healthy 205-210whp baseline dyno. That would be good for about 265 ~ 270 at the crank which isnt too bad.

But still reaching 290 @ the crank isnt dooable without ITBs or even a stroker kit. In which case $ value a turbo or s/c would have been a more simple choice.
