Default Stock resonator removal

I know there have been other topics partially discussing this mod. I recently went and got my stock resonator removed and replaced with a straight 2.5 inch pipe for a whopping grand total of $30.00 cash with no tax.
I didn't have a scale on hand, but the new piece weighs about a pound or so and the stock resonator weighs somewhere in between annoyingly heavy and annoyingly heavy dead weight. For a small box the resonator is pretty dense just like the catalytic converter.
I do notice a little added throttle response which helps whip around at low rpms, but nothing major.
The sound is the best part though. For all of you who want to make your S2000s sound like a civic with an N1 fart can on them, then this is not for you. It does, however, sound much deeper and louder when you want it to, but highway driving is almost no different. VTEC sounds absolutely amazing. I will admit that without a test pipe this mod would probably sound terrible and maybe not even be worth it. I would post a video of it, but from all the other videos I have heard it really doesn't capture the way it sounds.

If I haven't been clear enough, I really advise this mod as something simple. I'm sure I will swap out to a full aftermarket exhaust at some point in the future, but until then this is making thing a whole lot more fun and saving enough weight to make it worth it.
If someone really wants it I can record a video, just let me know. Happy Driving.

Just an FYI, the OEM resonator contributes to the VTEC kick, so you've actually reduced peak torque and possibly even peak HP. However, if you have the ability to lower VTEC, then you should be able to pick up some midrange.

I don't see how dead weight and a pipe with holes cut in it could lead to any additional horsepower.

Also I did a lot of research before removing my resonator where people have stated that the resonator takes away from VTEC by being a little too restrictive. No aftermarket exhausts for the S have any resonators that look anything like the stock resonator. I'm sure my test pipe is really killing my VTEC too then. Check your sources and really try not to be so negative, it isn't healthy.

It doesn't surprise me that you didn't find anything while doing research on the mod, but I really doubt you found any technical data about it at all. The fact is that I've spent over a thousand hours studying and testing resonator designs on my S2000 which resulted in a patent application for a new resonator technology (non-S2000 specific). Basically, I was just being informative, not negative. Here's a thread about it.

BTW, I'm glad to hear that it would only cost $30 for someone to install my mid-pipe with the OEM mufflers!

Arguing with Gernby on anything exhaust related is like trying to run a marathon without having shoes on. It just doesn't make sense, and you won't win.

Guys, I appreciate it, but I really don't want people flaming the OP over my posts or his responses. The truth is that nobody, including myself, would have questioned the performance from a simple resonator removal 18 months ago.
