your resonator acts kind of like a secondary muffler to make the exhaust quieter, it has nothing to do with your cat or test pipe. i woulnd't suggest cutting it off either.

ok maybe i listed the question wrong... Im looking to purchase a test pipe, but i notice that there are resonated test pipes (the ones with the little bubble looking thing on them) and then there are the straight pipe test pipes. is there any difference in power between the to?

oh ok, you're talking about high flow catalytic converters vs test pipes (straight pipes). the difference in power is negligible, about 1 hp. a high flow cat is going to cost more and smell better, where as a test pipe will flow better, cost less, and smell worse. either way you really cant go wrong. i'm still debating which one to buy actually. good luck with your choice.

btw - you'll want to search CEL's and fixes.

I purchased a high flow cat last week. I am still waiting for it in the mail. The descriptions say it's a straight through design. And I asked the seller if there is a honey comb inside, he replied, it's hollow inside. I am anxious to find out how it sounds. Remember, if there is no honey comb inside, it's basically a test pipe in disguise as a catalytic converter

It'll get you out of trouble if a cop happens check for a catalytic converter!!!

Jman, there are test pipes with small resonators on them, and they are not high flow cats.

i didn't notice any difference between my resonated TP and my straight TP at all. no difference in sound, power, or response.
