Test pipes and emission changing mods
I do not care about global warming, and I too think it's a bunch of crap. The earth warms and cools. It has done so many times over millions/billions of years. I know there are huge numbers of vehicles on the road in the USA. But I think we (as a country) have done enough when it comes to vehicle emissions. Give the pollution talk to India or China. They are the ones with serious air quality issues.

And how can we possibly have "done enough" to control pollution when the average enthusiast thinks it's perfectly acceptable to run with a test pipe? Pollution is a cumulative effect, you don't get to go stick your head in the sand just because someone else is a bigger polluter.

And do you know why that is? Because the most common vehicle in China and India is a basic scooter, and - you guessed it - they don't have catalytic conveters.

So I guess we just continue to let the government put more and more restrictions on our vehicles (while other countries do nothing), until we are driving wind powered cars.... Whatever. Everyone has their opinion. I personally don't care whatsoever if someone is running a catalytic converter or not. BTW... I have a catalytic converter on my S2k. LOL

Most racing sanctions are putting in effort to go green, why shouldnt car enthusiasts?
There are just waaaaaay to many people that are cheap within this industry/culture and they aren't going to buy a $1200.00 Sports catalyst from Toda/J's/HKS/ASM when they can get a $90.00- $150.00 test pipe and make the same or more HP...... to most it doesn't make sense
. Its also the reason copy cat companies like Rota/Seibon/VIS/ED and etc do so well, most within the scene want as much for as little as possible.Talking about doing whats best for the environment is not going to change that. Also all of you say how every little bit helps, but on a scale of pollution as large as it is unless you get the entire globe on board you aren't changing @#%&. You can tell yourself your making a difference, but are you..... really
I doubt it.I have a cat on my car and have used straight pipes/ test pipes in the past, and IMO its not worth it (+$1000.00 penalties for tickets/citations, possible impounding of the car + those associated fees = not worth it for 7-9hp in the S or 10-15hp in the Evo I have now).
If the country wanted to try and fix the situation more rapidly, more states would adopt the strict emissions laws that Cali has, but that hasn't happened yet and seems in some states it wont for a long time. I myself hate CARB and think most of what they do is retarded, but what do I know? I am just a racing fan and car enthusiast
[QUOTE=pistolpete17,Mar 20 2009, 11:57 AM] When we spend money on combat and war, that money goes into the U.S. economy, and the technology filters down to numerous industries (law enforcement, medicine, civilian, etc.), and generates a significant multiplier effect (i.e. it boosts the economy). When we spend money on $8 billion mag-lev trains to satisfy Reid
