Default Track noob needs help

Hey guys I want to start getting some track days in would love it if I could get some help on how to best set up my o1 s2000. I curently have a 70mm test pipe and exhaust,275-35-18 Dunlop direzza starspec tires, wider frount fenders and an 04 engine (f22) that I am installing. I have a excedy clutch that I am putting in what weight flywheel do you recomend? What alignment settings should I run? And last of all what kind of coilovers do you recomend? I was thinking ground control + koni's.

Why don't you just try a few track days with your current setup?

A lot of your questions are subjective. like Chuhsi said just get some seat time and figure out what your car needs from there.

The mod list usually goes something like this:

Helmet
brakes
tires
roll bar
seat/harness
intake/exhaust
suspension
aero
etc, etc, etc....

Plus if you put your time in searching all the forums you will find all your answers and more! I have been researching the same idea for over a year and still have tons to learn!!!
Good luck and have fun and be safe!

I have been researching for over a year just trying to find the right upgrades. And I am planning these ugrades for auto-x as well as track I have been autocrossing my s2000 for 4 years. As I plan to have my car upgraded for the next autocross season and auto cross starts before track days do, is the only reason I am not trying it as is. I know everyone here will preach (keep it stock) race it as it is, I did in auto-x for four years and I feel ready for the next step. I have some idea of what I want to do but I want to hear from people people who have all ready modified s2000s for track days, what they have done, what they wish they had done in hindsight and what they think I should do.

Then share those with us. Asking for the best mods for your car is like asking for the best clothing to buy. The answer is that it depends on what your needs are.

It sounds harsh, but asking such a non-specific question suggests that the right answer for your level of experience is to not modify the car until you have a better idea of what you need.

Also, you might want to read the FAQ, where the first question is "Which is the best XXX?", and the answer is "The best is not specific enough to ask here".

How big is your budget?

How much are you willing to sacrifice in streetability?

Really, we could use a LOT more information before we can give any useful advice.

If you're planning for autocross as well, you might want to consider how seriously you autocross as some modifications will put you into XP. SSM at a minimum with the fenders and wheels off the top of my head.

I am all ready in ssm from my front fenders so I am not worried about auto-x classing. It's not a daily driver so I am not worried about creature comforts. My plan for mods are exhaust(done) wheels and tires (done) a good track alignment(no idea)brakes (password jdm slotted hawk plus pads) but open to ideas, coilovers (ground control 600lb springs with Koni shocks) open to others, and finally since I am doing an engine swap I am puting in a new clutch and maybe a new lighter flywheel was hoping I could get you alls opinion on that one. As far as budget I don't want to be buying anything exotic but I don't want to buy anything twice so I don't mind waiting longer if I need to spend more

I'd suggest you stick to solid (blank) rotors.

If you have any track experience, you'll probably want to step up to a track pad, and bleed the brakes with a good fluid (RBF600, ATE superblue, etc.).

If you're doing an engine swap, then doing the clutch now will save you money in the long run unless the clutch already in the car is in GREAT condition.

Other than that, I'd say track your car as-is, and see what you like and don't like about the car before proceeding with more modifications.

that still doesnt help us very much because your answers were very vague are you willing to spend 10000 dollars or just 2000 dollars how about 20000 because some of the serious track guys have put that much into their builds and equipment it might also help us to know which tracks youre planning on running because different tracks have different nuances where you might benefit from one mod vs another and if youre really going whole hog and not worried about street driving then gut the car and cage it but maybe you didnt really mean that type of commitment but then again you didnt specify when we asked you to are you going to trailer it or still keep it street legal also if money isnt an object then maybe youd be looking at some sort of forced induction to really up the track experience but then again maybe thats overkill if youve never been to a track before but then again thats the point of us not knowing how to help you are you trying to look cool or improve your driving because one school of thought is to learn on a car with lower limits in that case getting skinnier all seasons will teach you throttle control and weight transfer better than uber sticky wide tires
