Default Tuning question

I just added an intake herder and exhaust to my car. I like the way it runs over stock but I've been wanting to get it tuned. I read up on the AEM EMS's and then I talked to a local tuner and he said after its all said n done, it'll be like 3 to 5 grand for the installation and the tune. Is there any cheaper ways to tune it besides going that route? I know it'll be worth it but thats a lot of cash to dish out over a tune. I just wanna squeeze a little more power out of it to benefit the mods that I just added to my car, and a civic SI in town wants to race because he just got an E85 tune, so yeah I kinda wanna do it for two reasons now.

You shouldn't be paying 3-5K. You could do the Halsport, or Greddy emanage routes, though I've heard less than desirable results.

Also, all I could do at work:

3-5K for install and tune of what? a full turbo kit? and why would you go full EMS for an intake, herder ermahgerd and an exhaust? If you read up on the AEM EMS, then you must not have read up on the price, and for a local tuner to charge you that much is retarded, I wouldn't go to them to have my tire pressure checked.

what's wrong with a full standalone for a bolt on car? i'm running a full standalone on my car with simple bolt on's. to the op, a standalone ecu can range anywhere from 700 to 1300 depending on the ecu and depending on weather it's new or used. to that, add the cost of a wideband which can run you 200-300 on average depending on the wideband and then add the cost of injectors which can run you 400-500 new for a good set. then add the cost of paying a tuner to tune the car and you're easily 2k deep.

3 to 5k can get you a nice used COMPLETE greddy turbo kit with the greddy emanage ultimate. it'll already have a tune set up for your car too.

You should be able to easily get a series 2 ems and n/a tune for under 1400...

What is there to install? The aem is pnp, all you have to do is remove the stock ecu and plug the aem in, upload a calibration and you're done.

a new aem series 2 goes for 1300-1400. the price for a dyno tune can vary. me personally for aem and haltech i charge 500 for a naturally aspirated setup. as far as installing, the ecu is pnp but then you have sensors you can add such as a wideband and not everyone knows how to wire up those sensors correctly.
