Did you have the J's hood when you installed the FIPK - if so, it was likely drawing air from the engine compartment - in the summer that can be some very hot air!

I do like the look of the J's hood, which kind of brings me back to the Chargspeed hood. I wonder if anyone out there has any experience with it?
i was running the FIPK with the stock hood and an AUT cooling plate. it just bogged all summer long. in the nighttime it felt awesome, though.

FIPK w/ AUT cooling plate and VS hood- no bog... even at the track. The hood is obviously vented.

i have a vented hood now (hopefully installing it this weekend), but the reason i really sold the FIPK was because of my plans of supercharging. so now i'm without an SC and without an intake

On a vented hood is it OK to run an open intake filter? I mean I'm never one to worry about hydrolock, but it seems like if you have an OEM airbox, it would soak the filter if it rained.

if you had the OEM airbox, no rain would get in through a hood vent...

Depends on the vents and rain channeling design. Some hoods, like the OEM mod discussed earlier and hoods like Varis, Spoon, etc have huge holes in the hood directly over the airbox. Probably not a good ides to have a stock box top open on those hoods. If you do run that way, (and I can't think of a good reason why you would), you will want to drill holes in th bottom of the stock box to allow any water to drain.

Many vented hoods have rain channels, etc to trap water in the vent where air flow out of the engine bay will blow it away, so its not such a problem.

Now about running your stock box open! the reason Honda has that big ass plastic box is to isolate your intake for the hot air. Many of the after market CAI either take the intake down away from the engine to avoid sucking in hot air, or have an enclosed box to isolate the intake from the hot air. The FIPK accomplishes this by having the hood seal to the top of the box. Comptech, ARC, and others provide their own box. But when you take the top of the stock box, your intake sucks hot air, decreasing performance. Even with a vented hood, that is a poor set up. If you want to keep the stock box (not a bad thing), get a high-flow K&N filter, gut your stock box and insulate it. Get an AUT cooling panel to duct cold air from in from of the radiator to the stock box. You won't have the awesome sound of the K&N intake, but you will have all of the gains.
This is what that setup looks like

yeah running it without the lid loses power and response, although it sounds like an FIPK

am i seeing correctly?? i always wondered whether the windshield frame would crush if the car were turned over like that... just by looking at it, it doesn't seem like it'd hold up.
