Default Wing Physics

I was wanting to add the Seibon MG wing, but before plunging into the project, I wanted to evaluate the many pros and cons to doing such.

Asthetic value, I think it would look great and give the car a more aggressive and sporty look.

Downforce, this is debatable because I have read that you will have to reach speeds of nearly 70 mph to gain any downforce effect, and since I dont race or track the car, this wouldnt be a very logical approach in my decision.

Increased Drag, with the downforce comes drag so would crusisng at over 70mph significantly hurt my gas mileage?

Handling differences... I dont really know much here or how it would play out except more downforce on highspeed turns?

I used this website as a reference for some of the physics involved.

http://www.up22.com/Aerodynamics.htm

So can some pros chime in and list afew pros and cons that I have missed?

By increasing downforce, you do obviously increase drag, but up to "what point" is the question. you can significantly increase downforce without significantly increasing drag force depending on the design of the wing.

It all depends on how the wing is shaped, and without some mean CFD there is almost no way to give you good numbers.

gas mileage will suffer: will it be noticeable? I doubt it.

70 mph is a pretty normal speed for any highway driving, so it might have some effect in those situations. I always found spoilers that I added to other cars gave me more stability in highway driving, less susceptible to cross winds too, just my general observation. Worse fuel economy wouldn't be too apparent i don't think, unless the wing is adjustable and is set nearly vertical. A mild slope on the wing wouldn't hurt much.

If you are not racing the car, there is no point besides the more aggressive look like you said. If you think about it, every car out right now does fine on the highway at 70 mph, so i don't see how it would benefit you having one just for highway cruises. Then again, if you like the look, go for it man.
