Winter Project Pics- Hard Dog Roll Bar
#31
Wow, just wow, very well done.
So, after surfing through much of the roll bar stuff on the various S2K sites, it seems to come down to this being the only real and viable option? It would be so much better if something could be done where the stock roll hoops remain in place (with speakers and for looks) without cutting into them.
In this installation, they are removed and gone but you get a "real" bar with serious protection for tall folks, I assume it still works with the ragtop and various hardtops but you are totally removing the stock roll hoops which does change the cosmetics of the car. I suppose on the positive side, if re-selling, one could take out the bar and put the stock hoops back in but that would be unlikely and you'd have even more "art class" stuff to do.
I really want a real roll bar and like you to avoid ANY question when going to VIR or Watkins Glen or Summit Point or COTA or whatever and also for the peace of mind of real protection but in a road car so nothing to break your skull on in the 99.5% of road miles without a helmet. This just looks like a massive amount of work, labor and probably skills that I don't have (very mechanical, and musical, not so much with the "art").
I'll post this here to compliment you and see if anyone has come up with any other options and keep pondering. I'm looking to take my new baby up to Summit Point for the two Shenandoah course events this year, but frankly, there is so much double speak that I could easily see they would get out a stick and send me home even though a lot of folks say they let you run Shenandoah and Jefferson with stock hoops. They were pretty chill when I went up there for the full Summit Point Race Course in my V70R but, then again, I was in a V70R so not a lot to worry about from a safety standpoint.
Thanks for the great write up and pictures.

from what i can tell; it's not possible as it's way too tight in there if you are using the replacement bulkhead bar.

I'm the original poster, but I have a U bend Hard dig double diagonal with notched stock bulkhead. The motor covers did go back on.
Not sure about the 4 bend double diagonal with bulkhead bar. Sorry.

After driving around for a few months with my hard dog dble diagonal bar without much of my interior, I really want to redo my install.
Your install looks so clean! I’ll need to find another OEM bulkhead and remove my bar to get it back in.
