I don't think a sock or bypass valve would "ruin" the resonance effect of a long tube intake. I think those just A) causes restriction and turbulance, and B) allows hot air to leak in. It's clear that the PWJDM does have a resonant hump in power, as you can see from the fuel curve. When I run the stock tune, it gets very lean at about 3500 RPMS.

I bought the insulation material at Lowe's hardware store. The foam is for insulating windows, and the silver bubble wrap stuff is in the same area, IIRC.

BTW, the benefit of the insulation in the gutted box was not fully demonstrated int he plots above. The main benefit of the insulated box is from reduction in heat soak. When I parked the car, and let the engine idle for 5 minutes, the IAT's shot up to about 130 degrees, then I got on the highway and cruised for a couple minutes. The temp dropped VERY quickly with the insulation, but it took FOREVER to drop without the insulation.

I just went to yahoo and searched for s2000 samco intake. Just go through those. I found a place with the black, blue, and red ones for around $140 shipped. When I get home tonight from work ill post a link.

I think that if the stock intake had a snorkel on it, it would be a closer comparison of the two intakes. I believe that's the main advantage of the PWJDM intake. Is there any way that you could fit the PWJDM snorkel on the stock intake and then dyno then?

It would be interesting to compare map pressures from stock to gutted.

I'm looking at the 2 MAP curves from the stock OEM Box compared to the gutted / insulated Box, and they are virtually identical. It's not worth posting the image.

If I had a snorkel for an OEM box, I would certainly test it, but I don't, so I won't.

is that thing carbon on the JDM intake a good insulator?

I was thinking about getting an AEM or similar and heat wrapping it

hmm, This makes me want to test before and after on my drop in filter. I noticed you ran the stock filter vs the pwjdm. Thanks for taking time to do this test it was nice to see someone else is thinking along the same lines.

I understand how a person could assume such a thing. However, a day at an autocross with an OBDII datalogger, and you'd see that IAT's can be 50 degrees above ambient for your entire run. Even with my PWJDM CAI, my IAT's will be 20+ degrees above ambient by the end of my run (down from 40+ degrees above).
there is no argument can be made about numbers.

now we only need to find the explanation.

because plastic soak/transfer heat in much much much lesser degree than common metals.
