Default Different Gears

So i have been thinking about purchasing different gears for my AP2. I think I herd once that 4.77's are better for AP1's and anything below that is good for AP2s. I dont remember where i herd that and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. I might be completely wrong and was wondering what people thought was a good final drive gear for MY04.

I had an AP1 with 4.77 gears, and now have an AP2 with stock gears. The road torque curve in the lower gears winds up being almost identical between the AP1 with 4.77's and a stock AP2, so they feel almost identical.

However, I regret getting 4.77's in my AP1, since I was never competitive for autocrossing again. They would be even worse for my AP2, since the AP2's aready have lower gearing and a lower rev limit.

I have 4.57's in my ap2 and i wish i had gone with 4.77.... There is no correct answer as every opinion will be different. Find someone local with gears and ask them for a ride to see how it feels.

there are PLENTY of people in CA with gears

I think 4.44 or 4.57 is your best bet IMO

It really depends on what you want to do with the car. If you autocross or track the car much, then you'll do better with stock gears, but if you just drive on surface streets or drag race, then lower gears can be cool.

^ Agreed. I'm going with 4.44 in my Ap1 as a compromise since I may do some tracking with my car and still have a little get-up on the street

I've had an ap1 w/ 4.77's and now have an ap2 with 4.77's.... they were great on the ap1 and are now just as great w/ the ap2. 99% People who say they are too short for ap2 have never even had them on their car. So to all those folks STFU... There is no issue w/ rev limit. I rarely use first gear b/c the gearing is short enough to start off in second eliminating a rather quick 1-2 shift. The only reason I would choose a lower gear set is if you plan to supercharge down the rd. Then I would get 4.44s instead. But if you're gonna stay N/A like myself 4.77s is the way to go... makes a fun car even more fun. IMO YMMV

I have 4.44 in my AP2 and couldn't be happier. I think this is the way the car should have come. Certainly noticeable but not to aggressive.

99.99% of people out there, that have actually fitted 4.77 gears, rate them highly.

Gernby is the 0.01% that doesn't rate them

Best to get a passenger ride so that you can make up your own mind.
