Default Help from the exhaust Gurus :)

Sorry this is not S2k related but today I went to take off both my resonators from my v6 7th Gen Accord. And as the guy cut the first one off, I asked if I could start the engine since it was running unrestricted.

Holy SHEETTTT I love that sound. . I put back 2 tubes instead of the resonators ( looks like it wont last long ).

But here is the question for the people experienced with exhausts and mufflers on Accords. What are the pros and cons of the straight pipe exhaust. I have heard that you loose a lot of low end power and it has a lot of fireback or something when you let of gas.

AND most importantly how is the drone on freeway cruising speeds, if it has any.

I would love to have that exotic sound on my 7th Gen.

Here is a quick phone pic of it if you are wondering how it looks . Changed the wheels on it though, running Rays 77w's now

As long as their's no CEL, then it should be fine. All of the "fireback" and low end torque comments are BS.

Resignators help with sound. Your most likely going to get a "whom whom whom (HORRIBLE DSCRIPTION) sound as you drive especially in tunnels etc. I would put the resignator back in, I couldn't imagine listening to that after long periods of time. . I left the stock exhaust on my DD TC and just upgraded the resignator, and now has a nice clean, deep tone to it..

Actually after driving my car for a day with no resonator and just 2 stock mufflers, I really love the sound of it. It has a very clean deep sound to it. I will probably run it like this for a long time.

Resonators will change the shape of your torque and AFR curves. By removing the resonators, you did lose torque somewhere and gained it elsewhere.

I would imagine this effect would be more pronounce with a smaller diameter exhaust. Have you done any resonator testing on a bigger exhaust; 70+mm?

All of the resonators I tested were 3", but you are right that the impact on the torque curve is related to the cross sectional area of the pipe and resonator chamber. The most pronounced change that I experienced came from a 3" Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator, It had more impact on the shape of my torque curve than some of the HFC's I tested.
