Default Modular 4.6 swap?

Why has no one gone this route? Is it too wide? These motors are cheap, plentiful, and make decent power. Discuss.

They Are MUCH wider and taller then the LS3 people have put in the S. The heads on these things are massive. On the ranger forums, members would have to mod the firewall and would have to alter the steering linkage to get past the headers. IMO your better off going with a old school 5.0 ho, or a small block chevy.

because theyre big, heavy, and like the f2x motors, require FI in order to make any real power over stock. also, the only ones that make power from the factory are the 4valves, which arnt exactly cheap or easy to come by

Actually you can make nice amount of power even with the 2v 4.6, but its easier with the 3 or 4 valve versions. You can also find cheap versions of the 3 and 4 valve from different donor cars, just have to look for the right cars in the junk yards (look on wiki). These engines respond decently to bold ons, but because its ohc, anything major is expensive. You can get close to 400hp NA out of a 2v, but It will cost you the same amount as a S/C or turbo setup, and those can get you into the 400-500 range easy. A 5.4 would be more worth it, but as most are iron blocks, they are even heavier, but can make some nasty power if you have the coin. Buy a cheap 5.3 vortech from a van, rebuild it, and add compatible corvette parts, intake, cam, heads and upper and lower intakes, cost waay less, and your at 400-500 hp for around 2-3k in parts.
