if i was you i would wrap that header, especially since you cant use the black heat shield. or else your battery and AC lines and whatever else is in the way will be in big trouble. but hey dont take my word for it!

Bottom is easiest, jack it up put it on stands, remove old header use a bottle jack and a block of wood to jack up the transmission several inches for clearance and slide the new header in, just reverse process to button it all up. As far as heat goes, running the header with no heat shield directly on it should be fine, you will still have the large black verticle shield thats attached to the chassis of the car.
Thanks for the info Reapur. What kind of header do you have? Reason I ask is becuase the Skunk2 header has really long primaries that require removing the battery heat shield (the black vertical heat shield) and those long primaries will require removing a motor mount if installed from below.

Wondering if it's easier if installed from above?

Im using the Mugen AP1 header.

for those wondering, YOU CANNOT USE THIS METHOD WITH THE SKUNK2 HEADER.

unique design of the megapower makes it close to impossible installing it from the bottom without a lift. also, the black heatshield is reusable with a few modifications (aka adding a plate at the bottom to shift it up an inch or so) altho i ended up using "that shiny stuff".

to install, i:
- removed both passenger and driver side engine mount
- loosened heater hose/ac lines and all connections
- removed black heat shield
- removed lower subframe brace
- removed valve cover
- raised the engine

i installed from the top, took a while.

ive installed/uninstalled other headers (megan, toda, stock) and compared to this one, they took a fraction of the time/effort. looks really pretty in there tho!

after the install ( i loosened the ac lines and heater hoses last ) i think i may have been able to circumvent removing/raising alot of those things if i had those lines out of the way in the first place...

i have 48mm jenvey itb's and had the plm header and a custom 3 in' exhaust with obx muffler. before this, the car dyno'ed at 206 with t1r exhaust and some vtec controller. after that, i installed jenveys and the above mentioned. I dynoed at 188 at the wheels. I was so pissed, i almost drove the car into a wall. lol. i went with jei at blacktrax's sugggestion and ran the skunk2 header and a blacktrax custom 3 in' which i think is also amazing. after all was said and done, i made 223 hp. no joke. holy shit that header and exhaust combo is amazing. which brings me to my next point, don't go cheap. You will only waste more time and money when you realize what you have done.
