running looser results in less duration/overlap and has a similar effect as retarding the cam timing

running tighter results in more duration/overlap and has a similar effect as advancing the cam timing.

I run mine 0.002 tighter than stock.. the ass dyno didnt really notice much difference.. it seemed better at high rpms w/no change at lower rpms. You arent going to notice much difference changing it 1-2 thou.

I strongly disagree about loose valves increasing low end power. That might be the case on non-VTEC motors, but you lose a LOT of low end when you go loose on a VTEC setup. The impact is pretty small on the high cam. I know this because I did my first valve adjustment incorrectly, and measured the gap between the cam lobe and roller rocker, which resulted in clearances that were about .005" larger than spec. This gave me a huge VTEC kick, so I thought it actually increased performance. However, when we had an S2000 club dyno day, I have very poor low cam performance, but my high cam performance was 2nd from the best out of the group. I later noticed that the valve clearance is supposed to be measured between the valve and adjuster screw, so I checked them again, and discovered how loose they were. I reduced the clearances back to spec, and went back to the dyno. The improvement in the low cam was something like10 ft-lbs, but there was practically no gain above VTEC.

I have performed 2 different valve adjustments on 2 different S2000.

I like the 0.007 and 0.009 setting more, which is 0.001 tigher than factory suggested spec. With this setting the car feels much more solid.

If you are setting your intake clearances at .010, then that's on the loose side of OEM spec, but if you are setting your exhaust at .015, then you are significantly outside of spec, loosing power, and are increasing wear on the valve train. Large clearances increase the force of impact between the cam lobe and roller rockers, which is why valve noise increases with clearances.

I've been running clearances .001 - .002 below spec for a combined ~100K miles in my 2 S2000's with good results.
