Well, we can be competitive in the RED MIST group, can't we?

Now that we have had some experience with Handicapping from the Radical Challenge, it might make the season much more interesting and exciting if we have a handicap system for the S2000 Challenge series. Here is a suggestion: 0.03 seconds per mod point
So, for example, if Driver A had 200 points of mods, and Driver B had 100 points, and Driver C had 50 points, then Driver A would get 6 seconds added to his/her best time, Driver B would have 3 seconds added, and Driver C 1.5 seconds added. Stock would have 0 seconds added. I believe experience has shown that this would make all the cars closely competitive (maybe some advantage to the less-modded cars on certain tracks), so it comes down more to drivers. What does everyone think? I think this would make the series much, much more exciting and bring back the smack talking .

[We wouldn't even need two classes (exclude Unlimited?) any longer, and everyone would have a shot at fastest time of the day.]

Sounds like a pretty good idea.

We could actually include Unlimited cars also since most of the mods are already assigned points, and we would add something like 100 points for slicks (vs the 50 for R's) and the something for weight reduction (e.g. .01 sec/pound reduced, so 1 sec per 100 lb). This way, everyone can play and the cars are normalized. Would be fun for us all to compete with Ry, Will, Kyle and the Dave's too . So no classes for the handicapped results.

[I might be more competitive if I de-MOD my car .]

That's an interesting idea, RL. One problem is that mod points weren't assigned purely based on the estimated lap time benefit, but on the perceived "degree of seriousness" of the mod (cost and/or "exoticness"). For example, coilovers are 75 pts vs RA1s at 50 points; but no one would claim suspension is more important than tires to lap time. Same with internal mods (NA) to a stock motor -- it's like 100 points, right? But there's almost no way you'll get 100*0.03=3 seconds from adding NA power to an F20C.

So I think handicapping could work well as a "smack talk challenge" to be held in parallel with the "real" challenge series, but ultimately I still believe that, for Challenge standing purposes, absolute times should rule the day.

Also remember that fluxen isn't going to want to be adjusting everyone's times -- he has a hard enough time just putting up the raw results! So I'd see this as something we could do within S2KI.

You have a point, though the more "expensive" mods that have more points, even if not proportional to speed, are often done by the more experienced drivers, so it might actually make the field more competitive. [edit: Actually, this is no different than the current system where 100 points in internal mods is unlikely to be as fast as 50 points in R-compounds, but it can knock you up a class.] But I agree that it would be hard to displace the current system, so doing this in parallel to the current system to encourage more excitement should seriously be considered. So we would have both the standard results and the handicapped results (which shouldn't be too difficult for the S2000's only; everyone would need to tell John, and everyone here, their mod points total).
