Default 225 on a 17x9?

I just picked up my new wheels 17x9 all around

I have some brand new 225/245 re11 on my stock wheels. I don't plan to run them anytime soon and having the tires sit is a waste. I actually wanted a staggered set of wheels but the deal I couldn't pass up

I am not comfortable with a square setup and wanted to progress slowly so maybe a 235 after

Could I put the 225 on the rim and still track it or will it just be dumb?

I know I can sell it but would rather just use it up than take a hit.

I know the hella flush crowd does it for street but this is track

I had 225 RE-11's on 8.5" rims, on my street S2000. It was in no way stretched. I can try to find some pics for reference, if you want, pm me your email address.

I see that 225 RE-11 specs are no longer listed on tire rack site. The RE-11a specs show a max rim width of 8.5. That would be a little bit of a concern

it will be stretched no? i know Bridgestone tends to run pretty wide. the 225 on 8" wide wheel on my STI seems to fit perfect. but if i were to imagine another inch it might be too much to cover.

this should give you a good idea.

I wouldn't really call it stretched... it looks more stretched than it actually is because of the rim protector on the sidewall. Anyways, it will be better than running the same tire on a narrower wheel since the sidewalls are better supported. You will have quicker turn-in, more feedback, more grip (lower pressures=larger contact patch) and a few other little benefits. Its been done many times with success. A 225 on a 9" wheel is one of the preferred setups for track miatas not limited to smaller wheels.

225mm = 8.8 Inches It would actually fit ideally on a 9" rim. My miata track buddies use this as well, go for it.

well i guess it depends what he is using it for. im guessing he will be road racing. so i dont know how that applies and how it will feel. but if honda saw fit to put at the very least a 245 on the rear 8.5" wide wheels i dont think its good to put such a small tire on a much wider rim. but then again everything else needs to be factored. im sure suspension set up accounts for tire choice as well. and his driving style.

@Jlozano- did you go squared set up?

Here I am thinking I am on my 3rd miata, and I thought I was driving faster just from sheer skill!
