Default 97 dB> Track Exhaust

Is there a track orientated exhaust that is below 97 dB?

The only thing I've seen is the Tanabe Medalion Touring. I'm currently looking for something that isn't ear splitting-ly loud as well.

Currently have cut at Y-pipe of OEM exhaust to turndown with test pipe. It's loud as hell and drones like crazy. From some older threads I've seen (Like here) it looks like welding a 2.5" pipe to the split and exiting at the rear, potentially with a muffler, will quiet things down significantly. Would like to hear what others have to say as well. The car is almost all track lately because of how loud it is (absolutely need ear plugs to drive the 1 hr 15 to VIR) and I want to be able to take it out here and there without waking the dead.

I run the Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust because most of the tracks and autocross locations I go to have strict db limits.
I am not going to take any chances, this exhaust with a high flow cat is loud enough.

Not much weight savings maybe 15lbs at the most going from stock to tanabe and hfc.

I am not sure of the rules where you track, my experience is based on autox, so take it as you may.

I have a flange near the diff (autox ST rules require it to dump behind the passenger compartment) in my stock exhaust
I have a PLM header, berk cat and K&N intake

At big autox events, like nationals, I pull the entire back section and clamp a turndown where that flange is. So I am running header/cat/resonator and that is it. That is 44 lbs lighter than stock (rear section and stock mufflers = the 44 lbs). I think the highest sound reading I have seen is about 94 dB believe it or not.

If you are not running a cat, then that may not work for you. We have to keep a cat for solo so I have never tried it with a test pipe.

Mine is with test pipe and it is loud as hell with the cutoff. I also have full gutted interior and hardtop. I hear keeping the cat keeps the noise down.

My Tanabe Medalion Touring behind a Berk high flow cat recorded 95dBA on my OSHA-calibrated sound meter. California test protocol a couple feet away from the exhaust tips at a 45° angle. (Criteria is on line somewhere.) Tanabe claims 94dBA but that's probably with the OE cat. The Speed Academy guys ran this exhaust on their BadasS2000 when they needed to drive it on the street to and from the track.

Yeah the cat certainly does. Mine sounds loud in the car (Full interior) with the cutout, but from a distance is not bad at all. Sometimes the resonance causes a lot more perceived sound in the car that is not that bad further away. But I would guess that my setup without a cat would likely fail sound.

As a quick test I had a pipe welded straight from the cut to the rear with a ghetto looking hanger. It's sufficiently quieter inside now, though not quiet by any means. My favorite part is there isn't any drone anymore. I actually drove the car to work today without ear plugs and it was enjoyable.

As a permanent solution I'll likely have a new pipe welded in to the Y going to some sort of universal muffler when I have the time. Doubt I'll get anything quieter without going to Tanabe (more money, heavier) or stock (much heavier).
