So, I blew my diff on the starting line at a local auto-x yesterday. Fun stuff. I guess I'll be taking it a bit easier once I get it fixed. I would guess there were about 350 clutch dumps on R-compounds on that diff. 50K miles.

I'm registered for the National Tour event in Peru next weekend. Does anybody have any leads on a diff?

Thanks, Matt

Ouch, now I'm scared. I have 78k on mine and did a 5 run autox yesterday. Any idea how much that will cost to fix? I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to get it replaced under warranty because it's not abuse by us, it's Honda making a weak diff.

Well, I would argue that strapping on some R compounds and doing 7k clutch dumps would constitute abuse on our parts but hey...

Anyway, just to make you guys more paranoid, I started to notice a clunking sound coming from the rear when I would coast around corners about two months ago and it has been getting a little louder ever since. I think it may be a precurser to a diff failure.

I imagine the diff will cost around 900 used and I'll install it myself.

i blew my stock differnial pinion gear (sheared the teeth off of it) and my s2k is completely stock and used a mix of s-02's and s0-3's in its lifespan (autocrossing with 6k rpm clutch drops) at 48k miles.

Matt,

There is an all honda junkyard about an hour away from my house (knoxville TN). I will try to find there number for you. They have many S2000's in the lot. I am almost positive that they can help you.

How hard do you launch Warren? I get fairy easy wheelspin without a hard lauch on many surfaces (Ripkin being one of them), but when I find that I need to really do a clutch drop (Etown sometimes) - not worth it. Won't even do that at the divs next month if I can't get a launch.

...well over 200 r-comp runs here, but not all 'launches'. I'm not really lucky with warranties for whatever reason so I don't push it. BTW - I do think it's abuse. No matter what, a 6500rpm clutch drop isn't exactly everyday use.

Be sure it is actually the diff. Both times I've had broken halfshafts on my car, I assumed it was the diff.

Unless you actually have a cracked open case, have a helper apply the parking brake and then apply some throttle and clutch in 1st gear. While this is happening, look under the back of the car at both inner CV's and watch for the boots to wind up. If you see the boots twist, you've got a broke CV trunion, not a diff.
