your friend is funny! I owned like 3 GTIs in the past, last one was a '98 VR6, as much as I loved that car there was no way for it to be a fast autox car! Like others said, totally different classes, and there's a reason for that!

However, it depends on the driver, if your friends has been autoxing for a while and this is your 1st autox then he'll have no problem beating you, even in a minivan!

I'd hold off on the chortling; that way, if he can outdrive you, you don't have to eat your words.

Go to SCCA, then look for Events, and the results.... No comparison, not even close to the same stock...
Or just go HERE and show him. s2000 = A stock, GTI = G stock.... just tell him he has to make it to F, then E, then D, then C, then B, then he can try to compete.
That right there will close the "which car is better argument".

However, if he's talking about simply who would be faster (you in your car, him in his), depending on experience, it's a toss-up. A shitty driver makes all the difference. His mods also throw him into a modified class (maybe SP or SM), so if you go by PAX you should whomp him irregardless.

My 95 GTI VR6 feels like a bus compared to the new S.

haha yeah, having come from a 02 GTI (same exact thing as your friends), um, how should i put this... the stock suspension sucks. with just springs its not much better, with some koni yellows its not bad, actually pretty decent, and if you get some nice coilovers with the right springrate and the right drop (none), theyre relatively good. the thing is with MK4's, as soon as you lower them, you **** up the geometry bad enough to actually hurt handling unless you REALLY stiffen it up. the best 2 things for that car handling-wise are a big rear bar and an LSD.

also, i dont remember hearing about a mk4 going 9.9. billy t did low 10's in his 1.8t mk2, and there is a mk3 vr6t that might be in the single digits by now, but there really isnt a big aftermarket like there is for most hondas, so theyre pretty limited.

edit: i dunno if youve ever driven his car, but take it around the block and pay attention to the throw on that shifter . after i got my s2000 i moved my friends vr6 for some reason and it was insane how long the throws were.

anyway, theyre nice cars and everything, and sometimes i miss mine, but theyre nothing like the s2000.
