This has been helpful, looks like I would be in NASP (street tire/A Street prepared).

Both the pillowball mount and XBrace topics have been beaten to death here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stu/

(In fact the discussion got heated to the point where the admin booted someone off...)

That's the place to go for SM/SM2 discussions. Pretty much all of the SM/2 bigguns are on that list.

For clarifications you used to just email Howard Duncan. You may be able to email the SEB for a clarification. (If they agree that your setup is legal then be sure to print a copy and bring it with you to big events.) Local folks are usually not so familiar with all of the rules. And what a local person says is not going to hold much water at a national event - especially if it was just a conversation (ie not written).

For rules that are unclear usually a protest needs to happen - then the rule gets cleared right up - and the clarification is in the Fastrack for all to see. I don't think that this has happened for any of the suspension stuff in SM/SM2. Look for that to happen in September.

Generally, you have to beat someone to be protested. And, on top of that, you would probably have to bump someone out of trophies or contingency cash before they would be likely to bother. AND usually the "other" competitors get together and grumble about the the illegal item on the fast guys car and then warn the fast guy to get it changed before the next event...

With all that said, did anyone actually end up running stock A class with the X-brace?

I want to install the X-brace -- for a weird reason: I live in a 3rd world country with a lot of crappy roads, and would like the brace to help keep the car in one piece, yet do not have the convenience of removing the X-brace every time I go AutoX. However, I want to stay in stock class, since my car is actually bone stock ...

Thanks.

From what I've read here, they were never discussing stock class. The X-brace is not SCCA stock class approved. As a former street prepared competitor, my belief is that it is not legal in SP either. (Been a while since I looked at street prepared rules though.)

Under the SCCA Solo rules:
An X brace is not legal in Stock.
An X brace is not legal in Street Touring.
An X brace is not legal in Street Prepared.
An X brace is not legal in Street Modified.

You are free to negotiate with your local club or competitors to be allowed to use an X brace in whatever class you want to be in, or create.
