Default Bent Carbotech pads, update

Update to this thread:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/753...s/page__st__25

I was having a little bent pad backing plate issue in our T3 car. Piston side.

Much improved after filing the ears and the side of the pad.

But was given a tip from a Spec Miata racer.

Just remove the side shims to give more space and eliminate any side binding at all. Looking at the shiny parts on the shims from wear even after filing, I think this is the easiest solution.

So no filing ears and just remove shims.

Picture for reference:

Interesting that these little dudes could cause such dramatic deformation. Let us know how bad the pad knockback is if you don't mind.

Carbotech uses other peoples backing plates. I've had issues with them bending... even on the vette I ran a few weeks ago they bent.

I bent the fronts (piston side as well) on the xp9s I ran (no shims). Going XP10s this year so we'll see how they do!

What is so good about the Carbotech pads that warrants solving the bent backing plates rather than switching to another manufacturer?

I switched from Carbotech to PFC, and realize how poorly made Carbotech are
I've personally had 3 occasion where they've used the wrong template and sent us the wrong pads for various cars (not S2000)

Non-corrosive brake dust.

I always remove the shims on any cars that I track. It is louder but I noticed the same thing with binding on various race pads.

I run Raybestos ST43 brake pads. Pretty cheap and they last forever...
