Default In car video choices?

I just bought a Sony DCR SR62 video camera, primarily for in-car video. It seemed to have everything that I wanted.

But there's a real problem--even after turning "auto shutoff" off, it seems to turn itself off at inopportune times, not even when it's out of power.

I'm curious what hard-drive-based cameras people use, and whether anyone else has used this camera successfully in a car. I plan to bring it back, but I haven't decided whether to just swap it for another one, or get my money back.

Thanks.

Thanks for this. It's interesting that he had the same issue I have with the camera turning itself off. Every time I get on the track, off it goes.

Looks like I'll have to start this process over again.

Like he says in there, it's probably a vibration issue. Either the camera is sensing the vibration and shutting itself off or the power switch is being toggled off.

The power switch is still on; so it's almost certainly a vibration-safety thing. But it seems that doesn't happen if you use the SD slot with a 2GB card instead of the HDD. I'm checking into that.
