Ah, not sure even crash bars would have stopped that.

According that link above and posts on Pinterest, she is only 21 and I'm going to assume she is not an instructor.

Girl passenger and instructor are two separate incidents. The instructor was badly injured. The girl passed away on scene based upon coronor's release.

Raceline... aren't they they ones that run the pseudo "gentleman's style" of W2W - kind of like Best Motoring style?

Also, what direction was the track being run? CW or CCW? I've been told that CCW has a way of directing and sending your car toward the pit wall when coming onto the front straight - I can't say for sure since i've only run CW.

Very sad news...

I believe they are saying it was CCW. On Star Sports Car site showed CW.

This was early in the day, maybe even first session, and would have nothing to do with Raceline's "Honda Challenge Cup" Race. I'm absolutely sure that Raceline would not allow passengers in even a gentleman's style race. I do wonder how much the growing popularity of time trials during HPDE's with the emphasis on fast laps pushes the less experienced to drive beyond their skill set.

I'm actually really surprised at how much this is allowed. I can't think of any events out here in my region (east coast) where I'd be able to go out solo and see what kind of lap I could run. I look at the s2k challenge set of events and it seems there are quite a few people that can go out with little instruction. Is there a certain group of them that typically do have instructors?

I know for most of the lower level HPDE events over here you aren't allow to have any timing equipment in the car.

Instructors are not mandatory here for some organizers. In any event some instructors are pretty useless here anyways. I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Do death and accident occur more frequently on our coast than East? I don't think it's that common in either territory to be honest.

You must be within 107% of the FTD to even beconsidered for the gentleman's W2W race. This will automatically eliminate novices. E.g. if FTD is a 2:00, then you must run a 2:08 or faster.
