I don't know how someone can drive hard with another person in their vehicle.

Do death and accident occur more frequently on our coast than East? I don't think it's that common in either territory to be honest.

No, I don't think deaths are very common in either territory but it seems to be much easier for a complete novice to go out and shoot for timed laps there than here. I do think a lot of the tracks out there have much better run off space though in the event of going off course and that probably makes some of the marginally safer.

Speedventures does a good job at keeping track of peopels track experience...lap times...offs...etc. If you have no experience..you must sign up as beginner. You can't just show up and go flat out with SV
Aaron does the best job out there and I never mind paying more for a better organized event with paramedics on site.

Did they have paramedics during this event?

Yup... it's required at ANY event. Part of the rental agreement.

On a side note, I used to be an EMT.

Aaron errs on the side of overkill when it comes to insurance, safety, etc., which I certainly appreciate.

Agreed on how Aaron and Speed Ventures runs their events. I've run with 3 different organizations, and they are by far the most organized with how they run their events.

However, that's not to say that this situation is not a possibility no matter who is organizing/hosting an event.

Had some buddies do ChumpCar at Road America last weekend and every hour there was either a broken part of car coming loose, fluid spill on track, contact, spin, wreck or dead car on track. IMHO it's the most dangerous amateur series out there.

I have a lot of fear and self-preservation instinct. It's the thing that's kept me out of instructing for track. Freak accidents can happen anywhere, but I want to be wearing HANS and a 6pt harness on track and a lot of student cars just don't have that.

I have done LeMons 5 times, and had plenty of friends run ChumpCar and I would agree with this. The penalties at ChumpCar for driving over your head are non-existent, versus LeMons where dropping a wheel is a black flag with minimum 30 min penalty. Chumpcar allows 1-2 wheel drops with no penalty, and 4 off is OK as long as it wasnt too bad.

Its something I have been looking at as well with a lot of the burgeoning TT series coming around in the SoCal area, where FTD is the format usually chosen, encouraging drivers to push hard every session, but there is no penalty for driving over your head, and putting 2 or 4 in the dirt. If you run within 10% of FTD is one thing, but doing so while being within your skill level is another entirely.

Does anyone know if the driver was participating in any TT event that day or was it just HPDE?
