clutch replacement for SCCA stock class
After doing my first major clutch smoke this past weekend, I'm here to tell ya that it stinks for a long time. I'm not in the market to replace the clutch at this point (only 15k miles) but I'd like to know what folks have done or pondered to upgrade thiese parts while staying within stock class limits. Conversations I've had to date seem inconclusive so let me throw this out:
What can I legally do to the clutch? Does it simply have to work with the stock mounting and flywheel (kinda like shocks)?
More clamping force would be a good start but I suspect that the friction surfaces should also be upgraded.
Comments? Please, the more the merrier!

Quote from the 2001 Solo Rule book...
"Parts available as a replacement through the dealers parts department, the factory, or any other source which do not meet standard part specifications are not legal in stock category, except as specifically provided elsewhere in these rules."
So I looked through the rules and found no specific areas addressing the clutch. And following the SCCA logic "if it doesn't say you can do it, you can't do it." So a replacement clutch for stock class would have to be OEM or a direct OEM aftermarket replacement.
A reputable driver of a 2001 drove my 2002 and stated that the clutch is very different, so I would first check with Honda to see if the 2002 clutch is a replacement available for all years.

How about Jason/Brad/Juliann/Ron/Banannie? Anyone want to talk about modifications without giving away the farm? Or is everyoen still on the stock clutch?
The idea about an '02 clutch seems like a reasonable start - if it's really different...

If I recall correctly, you are allowed to adjust various things in the vehicle within manufacturer tolerances during repairs. If you were so inclined, you could check the springs for proper clamping force and replace any defective springs. In theory, you could buy a heap of stock springs (if they were an available part) and look for springs on the higher end of force distribution.
For a similar (to me) example, on cars with non-adjustable camber I know people will loosen suspension mounts, push REALLY hard, and re-tighten to achieve maximum camber.
