The dangers of Instructing
This event was not a regular HPDE, it was one of those Fast and Furious car show / drift / run your GTO on bald Sumimoto tires and goose the throttle in a turn and hit trees sort of event.
We have one of those types of events locally and every year there are people spinning off crashing at high rates of speed. It's like ChumpCar with shittier tires and 20x the horsepower with 1/10th the driver skill and 100x the testosterone... with only a factory 3-point belt as safety equipment.
They asked me to instruct the last two years. I declined.
The only National organization I certified to instruct with is Audi, since I figured I could get into a nice AWD sedan with traction control and drivers tend to have a little more money to have decent tires.

summit is a track i will never drive exactly for this reason, not only are there no barriers but there are mounds to launch you into the trees...done it many times in iracing.
it is very sad that this has happened, and makes me respect instructors even more than i already do. it would be nice to see there be a standard for track safety, but i feel like it will never get to that point. really make you wonder if we would have even heard about this if it didnt't happen alongside hyperfest.

(not very skilled, nor do I trust my life to newbie strangers I don't know. I'm glad that there are people who do, though)
