DASH 1 for dummies...
Still haven't figured out how to get it to display lap times or MPH. Where does Race Technologies provide instructions (simple instructions)? It's been an expensive black box so far.
Richard,
This page http://www.race-technology.com/WebPage2/Ot...H1datasheet.pdf seems to indicate that the display is supposed to be programmed using software.

The instructions are in the help files that are installed with the v6 analysis software. There is also a DASH1 configuration utility installed with v6.
You will need the v6 DL1 reflash if you don't have it already. The first thing your DL1 needs to see after a reflash is a v6 DL1 configuration file.
Disclaimer: I just started a business (Fast Tech Limited) which for one thing will deal in RT products/support/data analysis assitance/etc....

See, this is the problem. This doesn't sound like instructions for dummies. I don't know what a utility is, what reflash means etc., and Programming?? I need instructions like "connect A to B", "press button C" etc. All the V6 help files are incomprehensible. I'll see if I can figure it out today.
(BTW, I still don't know how to turn off my kids' iPods. No on-off or power switch

So call at 8:30pm Pacific time, just to be sure he's done with his other activities for the day....
Here's the cliff notes of what I talked to Richard about:
Here's the summary of what you need to do, most of this is covered in the v6 analysis help files (START -> All Programs -> Race Technology V6 -> Documentation), but I'm summarizing for your benefit:
1) hook up your laptop to you DL1 via serial cable (no DASH1 hooked up, no CF card in the DL1) out at your car but don't plug in the DL1 to power yet (have your 12v outlet on, key in ACCY position); it is not necessary to have your GPS antenna plugged in for a reflash
2) go to START -> All Programs -> Race Technology V6 -> Others-> DL1 Reflash
3) select the *.hex file I sent you
4) a port selection window will pop up, most likely it's serial port 1 on a laptop
5) when you click "ok" on that selection box, plug the DL1 into the 12v at the same time
6) you should see the reflash status box, don't do anything until it finished
6b) if you get an error message you missed the time window at "power on" where a reflash to be accepted; just try again (steps 2 - 5 above) varying the timing clicking OK to the serial port dialog box and plugging the DL1 into power.
7) after the reflash is complete, unplug the DL1
8) insert a CF card that has just the SETUP.BIN file I sent you on it. If you have a DASH1, "Enable GSM modem mode" in the DL1 configuration utility must be selected to use the start/stop button from the DASH1 and set marker function (this was already done in the file I set you). The DL1 configuration utility is what makes the SETUP.BIN file.
9) power on the DL1, wait until green status light has been flashing for a little bit and you should be good to go.
If your still having DASH1 problems after that, I can walk you through the DASH1 setup.
I found a bug in the DL1 configuration utility (v1.0.0.0) when I setup up my DL1 to use a DASH1 last week and new DL1 configuration utility should be out shortly from Race Technology (the SETUP.BIN file I sent you was made with v1.0.0.4).
Hope that helps serve as as a reference for others as well.
