Default Did I Screw Up?

I did my homework. I asked questions. I thought I was doing the right thing...

I purchased Toyo RA-1 235/45-17 fronts and 245/40-17 Toyo RA-1s for the rear on MY04 AP2 stock rims.

I have a Comptech Swaybar and would appreciate advice on where to set it for my next track day. It sure looks like I will need it. This thing can't be balanced.

The fronts are HUGE compared to the backs. The biggest surprise is the 45 profile fronts vs the 40 profile rears. Did I misunderstand the sizes?

Wow, it looks like I should have a front wheel drive 1/4 mile drag car. The fronts are that big.

I need some advice. Thanks in advance to all that reply. If I made a mistake, I might as well change to the correct sizes now...

You'll be fine. If your Comptech bar is adjustable, then start off with the stiffest settings and work back if you have to much understeer.

Even if the sway bar in not adjustable, you'll still be fine.
The 235/245 on OEM wheels work well.

Have you been on the track before?

Most people go with something more like 255/40 on the rear. But this is all variable.

The Comptech bar is adjustable. It was the one sold for autocross use with 5 settings. The values listed are 162%, 182%, 202%, 236% and 278% stiffer than stock.

Do you think I should go full stiff based upon these values?

I have 4 track days at Beaverun so far. I want to branch out and learn some new tracks, but figure I should get the tires under control on a known course first.

Thanks for the info.

Toyo makes a 245/40/17? Anyway, yesterday I had two 235/40/17 RA-1's put on my CE28N's in front. They are about 1" shorter than the 235/45/17. Yes, I know the rim is only 7.5" wide, but my shop assured me that there are worse things. I anticipate chewing up the outer edges a little faster than normal, however, I'm guessing sidewall flex will be less than with the 235/45/17.

I run the 255/40/17 in the rear.

I looked on Toyo's website last evening as saw the 40 profile. (After the panic began)

I used search to find the old threads where someone listed the 45 as proper... I read it again, that's what it said...

I guess the choice was originally based upon the fact that the 45 series is listed on Toyo's website to fit on a narrower rim. Since I have stock AP2 rims, I guess this is why it was suggested.

I will happily put the 40 profile on the front if we believe it will fit on AP2 front rims...

Thanks. At this point I have zero miles on the tires. I will pull them off if need be.

Forgive me, but what is the width of your front wheels? And are you sure you have 245/40/17's on the rear? The 235/40/17 states that it fits as narrow a rim as 8". That is why I mentioned the width of my Volks.

And I'm no guru, so don't take my word as gospel.

Also, since you say you'd take them off, I'm assuming you didn't have them shaved. Will these serve as both street and track tires for you?

I'm so rattled I can't even see straight...

The rears are 255/40-ZR17
The fronts are 235/45-ZR17

And, this is where I need help, I believe the stock AP2 fronts are listed at only 7". I guess this is why they spec the 45 series. It is listed by Toyo to fit a narrower rim than the 40 series... I guess the extra sidewall lets it flex? I know, it sounds stupid...

The tires are shaved 4/32.

I like Beaverun. I'm comfortable on it with stock rubber now.

Did 1:12 on all stock my last trip with way overheated soft brakes going into turn 1 and 10 at the end of the day...lost some time there.

Brake fluid changed, Hawk HPS added as well. The new pads really surprise me. I thought stock pads worked, boy was I wrong.

The tires and bar are new. I was on the list to run with the Porches this weekend, but just was informed it filled up on me...

SO, I have time to correct this.....

Thanks for the help, I must go to a friends birthday party now. The things I do for more track days...

I will read up later tonite...
