Did my mouth just write a check that I can't cash?
I decided to place a friendly $20 wager and bet my friend that I'd be able to beat him around the Auto-X course. For those that are familiar with the area, this is the one in Norfolk, VA at the ACU-4 compound... easily one of the best on the east cost from what I've heard. And for the record, this will all be in good fun. We're both doing this to push each other to get better.
The facts:
I drive a bone stock AP2. I'll be running on Advan R-comps (the A032Rs). I've got virtually no experience autocrossing, and the last time I ran I was on street tires.
My friend drives an Evo 9 with a few mods. He's putting down around 300whp and almost as much torque. He's never once ran an auto-x. He'll be on the stock Evo tires (which are Advan A048s I believe).
Is this at all a driver's race... or does he have so much more power than me that it won't even be close?

If he truly has no autocross or track experience, you have a good chance. Want to improve your chances? Go find an empty lot, some cones, and an experienced autocrosser. A little practice will work wonders.

I'd say the cars are evenly enough matched that driving will be 90% of the equation. Just remember instead of trying to fly through the course out of control relax and drive smoothly and always look out your side window for the next 2+ gates ahead.
Your friend will most likely try and go through at 10/10ths and overdrive the car to a bad time. Oh yeah, take an instructor with you on your first few runs to point some important things out, it helps a lot. The A032R soft compounds are very capable and heat up quickly to give you good grip, I ran a set on my M3/4 and I was happy.
