True about the wheels but powder coating them is really no different than us changing our mounts. I know it may sound like I'm arguing against myself but I would hate to see a reputable (deservedly so) company like APR lose credibility or even a sale because two people chose to modify their product and it failed.

c32b's post is about Voltex not APR.
Hi Momentum,

It is interesting you brought this up as we might be able to start a poll of users of various wings (trunk mounted or not ) with modified or un-modified stands & trunks regarding their experience with wing failure when tracking at high speed.

I am a member of a local motoring club and would really find it useful if I could help my fellow members by way of reminding them that perhaps modification of their aftermarket GT wing is something they should approach carefully.

+1.

The wing failure thread definitely did more good than bad for many racers out there, here is an example from least weekend RTA event, Turn in concept wrx went from 4" over the roof line setup and drop back down below roof, and finished the event with 2st place modified.

here are some photos

I don't even know what the goal would be in getting the wing that high up, especially if they are going to leave that little wing on the back of the roof that is specifically designed to keep airflow attached to the rear windshield.

If he doesn't go flying off the track there is no excuse for any of us.. No way he was going full speed, not only did he lose his wing he ran it over. That's a huge loss in traction. Impressive save non the less... That video of the red bull upright failure is nuts though, pretty funny that he is still trying to steer away from the wall

To me the whole thing couldnt be simpler.

The wing worked on APR stand for the past 3 years at 150mph+. Then it failed at 104mph on the first hot lap on modded mounts. It really is that simple.

For those of u believe this wing failed at 104mph due to running in clean air. I offer u a bet. I will mount the wing on top of my wagon. Go 104mph. If it fails, I give u $1,000. If it doesn't fail. U pay me $500.
