Thanks guys. I'm actually in Dallas, but moving back to California in two months (where I'm from) and will be hitting Laguna Seca and Thunderhill with some regularity (Sears Point now and then, but it's a wall filled track and a bit scary). The car is not my daily (C63 AMG Coupe Edition One is my daily).
Car is bone stock 2002 (as far as I know anyway). Definitely notice the understeer as previously mentioned, but damn it's fun!!!
Is there a "removable" roll bar available anywhere.
The main thing for me is I don't really want to trailer the car, so want to make sure it's drivable to the track and back.

Last week I did track day at Laguna in my CLS63 and after one session it was clear I have wrong car. Bought S2000 few days ago just like you and looking to hit same tracks
I ordered hard dog roll bar, advice from track day provider. I will also get coilovers (thinking KW V3), get car set up with alignment and pretty much leave rest alone.
I see you're in Reno, have you been to Reno Fernley yet? The c63 actually does quite well at the track, but the cost of consumables for the car is ridiculous and the limp mode it goes into if you drive too hard and get the transmission hot sucks. Essentially you have to avoid 2nd gear and shift at about 6200 rpms. Oh, and after 6 or so hard laps the brake pedal gets soft from heating up the brake fluid (I'm running motul 660 with ss brake lines). It's a fun car, but the price to track it gets excessive! Funny, now I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep it and get a less expensive daily...
Here's my S2000 track mod recommendation web page: http://robrobinette....0TrackEvolv.htm
It has lots of good getting-your-S-on-track info and typical modification progression.
At a minimum you need a fresh flush of good brake fluid and confirm you have enough brake pad and tire tread to cover the day/weekend. If your brake lines are 5 years old or older they should be swapped out for some stainless/kevlar brake lines.

Not in car. I did ride bike around track many times and all configurations. I don't like it, to tight and very bumpy. I don't think I will take my car there even tough I think they use lower part which is faster.
MB is just to heavy for track. I activated all safety features, like windows rolling up and seat belts tightening. Also destroyed all 4 rotors. Did not have brake fade much but there were smoking after session. I tried to use paddles to shift but it is not fast enough and has mind of its own
