First time autocrossing this weekend need recs
I'll be doing my first autocross in columbus this coming weekend, i wanted to clarify some things.
first, i am BS class right. Any suggestions for inexpensive numbers or how to make em
second i want to run a set of worn out s02s probably 20% treadwear left, what tire pressures do you recommend.
Also, top up or down, are there rules on this.
I've done a lot of track events but everyone says this is different.

I will be there this weekend also. You can run with the top down, used to anyways. Its been about 5 years since I have autocrossed, but I don't think that has changed. BTW, the S02's loose performance past 50% wear. As with my other cars that I would auto X, I will set the fronts higher and adjust as needed. I will need to see how this car throttle steers and trail brakes since this will be my first event with this car before I play with the pressures.
BTW, are you going to register in the evening or morning?

I used to order my numbers from a place called Solo Time. Inexpensive Magnet stock. I have my old numbers, but my class letter won't work. I think we are in BS along with M3's. If my intake ever shows, it will place me in a modified class. Tech can tell us Saturday night.
I will PM you with my office number.

I did autocross for the first time a few weeks ago- you'll have a blast!
I kept the car in first gear 90% of the time, but I feel the course was tight. I'm looking forward to the next event so I can try out the 2nd gear advice I got.
You can get tape on numbers at the event- a $1 donation per number is requested.
The best advice I can give- get there EARLY. Very early. You'll spend alot of time spinning donuts in the signup lines and such. Pick out an official and ask alot of questions- I found the staff tobe very helpful. Getting there early will give you plenty of time to be confused and still be able to walk the course.

To place my first crack in context, I *have* seen autocrossers hit things but they would have been easily avoided with even slight common sense.. Like the time someone in a modified Fiat 850 Spider hit a light pole head-on - all she had to do was stop turning (she finished a turn and, for some reason, didn't straighten out for some distance) or the time a 'Vette jumped a curb and nearly T-boned a van (get off the gas and get on the brakes). SCCA and most other organizers have strict rules about how close to immoveable objects and the course flow that might take you near them. You pretty much have to do something awfully stupid to hurt anything other than a cone.
You run more risk on the street every day than you do at an autocross...
There's a lot of good info on for SCCA novices at : http://www.az-region-scca.org/ SCCA. From the AZ website there are links to the main SCCA website that will give you even more info. Someplace in there I downloaded the Solo II Novice Handbook, A guide to help you make it through your first season. I think the location is http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm
Just in case your wondering I too am gonna try my first AutoCross this weekend also, so I found your thread and the subsequent posts very interesting.
