Default Fuel Cell Question..

Is anyone here running an 18-22GAL fuel cell made by either ATL or Fuel Safe?

I want the maximum capacity for an FI S2000 build I am currently working on...

im running a 15gal in the trunk. it was too large to fit in the center of the car without alot of fab work. i still had to cut, trim, and reweld a few things to make mine fit. largest that will fit without major work will be a 12gal cell. 18-22 would require alot of work to the main framework of the car.

Why do you want that high of a capacity? Other than endurance racing or cross country trips I can't imagine an application. You could use the stock tank and a 6 gallon cell as a surge tank...

I don't mind gutting the factory sheet metal rearward of the seats.

However, my space restriction is due to the angle of the fore/aft bars from the main hoop to the rear shock top area.

Additionally, I want the tank to fit with in the carbon fiber tonneau cover I already designed.

I could see dropping the tank a bit lower to get some extra clearance.

I just trying to avoid making a custom shaped tank due to the extra cost associated with that.

I have two main reasons...

1-I don't want to stop for a re-fuel when I drive the car to NorCal. The extra weight for the larger capacity is negligible.

2-At WOT on track, the engine is consuming an average of 3.6 MPG. If I turn up the boost a few lbs., that number will drop under 3 MPG. The factory tank does it's job well, but I think my needs exceed what it can do.

The surge tank idea you have makes alot of sense, but if I am going to make a change it is going to do exactly what I need it to.

Fuel Safe has 2 size options in 18GAL
1- 28" x 17.125" x 9.875"
2- 33.5" x 20" x 6.5"

in 22GAL they have 5 options:
1- 34" x 18" x 9.5"
2- 25.5 x 17.125 x 13.75
3- 25.75" x 25.75" x 8.5"
4- 33" x 17" x 9.25"
5- 25" x 16.75" x 13.625"

The factory cavity is:
27.5" x 22" x 10"

I can work with the height parameter, but only slightly...
If I use the 22GAL tank (#2 or #5) and shift the tank in the cavity toward the front of the car 3.5-5", I should have the clearance I need.

The main thing will be the height of the cell to keep clear of the diff. And are you going to set up a remote filler neck or run a hose to the stock location. The height of the cell will play a big role in how you can fill it.
