Default Getting Started in AutoXing

Can someone point me in the right direction when it comes to getting started in Autocrossing in the SJ/SF area? SCCA too expensive for me. . . and I think I've learned everything I can learn from GT on PS2.

How much are autoxes out there? They range from $25-$40 out here in the metro NYC area.

You spent over $30k on this car... spending $30 to learn how to drive it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

$15 per event for SCCA in Western NY is more typical for SCCA members and ~$25 for non-members. You can become a member for $70 (I think) or $25 for the Speed Freakz 25 and under membership. The membership dues are U.S.-wide but local events can charge what they desire.

Anyone wanna pitch in with Left Coast pricing?

Last guy I talked to about SCCA told me that it was like 700 bucks . . . maybe he was referring to solo or roadracing events? I guess checking their site on my own wouldn't be a bad idea...

Yeah, the $700 was probably for a competition license, for all the road racing and stuff like that.

I registered for SpeedFreakz, it was $25, and our auto-x's are $15/class and you can run two classes. Auto-x is probably the cheapest form of racing (other than street racing )

Autoxing is a lot of fun and pretty cheap.
But you will need to get a helmet or at least borrow one from a friend with a motorcycle.

Needs to be at least a Snell 90 motorcycle helmet for most events. Many motorcycle helmets do NOT have a Snell rating...
