Going Faster - What About Z06?
#11
Man I was pondering the same question last friday, as I was waving by a number of race prepped Z06 Vettes.
They seem to have really good grip in places where I didn't and would pull strongly away with authority, and sound great too.
I dunno, maybe in a year or 2 when they are more affordable.

thanks for the input... i have to admit i'm not a big fan of GM interior with the buttons, knobs, and levers that look more at home on something you'd find at toys-r-us than in a $50K car. there are a couple of other things that bug me about the car, but it's hard to argue with the bang for the buck that Z06 offers. I think '02 can be found for under $30K if you look hard enough... that's a steal for what you get.
someday i'd have a dedicated track car, a trailer, and a place to put it all in, but for now i have to make do with what i have and as long as i can be fast around the track it's good enough.

KGB,
If you want to go faster, get the Z06, especially if you don't plan to drive it in Chicago traffic that much. I have enjoyed our '01 Z06 since new, and really can tell no difference between it and the 405 hp versions. It is a great road car as well as a total blast on the track. I have done road trips from Fl to Illinois, done track days at Road Atlanta (and survived) and Summit Point. A telling feature is that it got my wife wanting "something less powerful" ... so I got her "one of those cute little Miatas". Well, that was not powerful enough. So that lead to the S2K. I know, I lead a rough life, with a wife who is into sports cars! We both enjoy autocrossing the S, but for a track car, I don't think you could go wrong with a well maintained Z06 of any year, and it is way more comfortable for a nice long road trip IMHO.
