Thumbs up Hard Dog roll bar with OEM hardtop

Hi,

I'm planning to buy the Hard Dog roll bar (http://www.bethania-garage.com/s2000.htm) model number S2DH.

I spoke to Berthania Garage about the install and they claim you have to modify the levers that close the hardtop because they won't clear the bar. They recommended cutting and re-welding at a different angle.

Anyone running this roll bar and have experience with installing it in a car with an OEM hardtop (I'm assuming my CR hardtop is the same as any S2000 hardtop)???

Is there a way to do it yourself so you don't have to pay a shop to modify the levers?

Thanks,
Fil

It will involve some cutting and welding. If you can't do that yourself, then the answer is no.

But it's not a big deal.

On my car we just cut the levers off completely and welded a nut onto the cam mechanism, so a swivel wrench can be used instead of the levers.

That's not exactly a good solution if you want to take the top on and off like normal, which was the assumption I was working with here.

I modified my handles without cutting them. Unbolt the latch mechanism from the top and put it in a vise. Then take a floor jack handle or other long pipe and slip it over the latch handle. Bend the handle so that it is almost 90degees. I think it's normally around 45 degrees. Then reinstall the latches. I was actually surprised how easily it worked.

This looks like something I can do! So just to confirm, you did this to fit the Hard Dog bar?

I'm sure because I did it! I used the handle from my floor jack for leverage on the latch handle.
