But the more I think about it, it is a great line if it ever comes up.. 'hell, they just unscrewed on my car, has to be legal for CSP'. It really is less major than pulling a headlight.

I still don't understand what the diff between Mod and Prep is tho.
Even if they're only screwed in, it doesnt matter. If it doesnt say you *can* in the rules, then you cant. And the Prepared rules do not say you can unscrew "fake brake ducts" (or anything that could be considered what those things are) from the body.

D and E Mod are for cars that exceed the preparation allowances for all the other classes. A, B, C, F Mod are for race cars not based on production autos... they're for formula and sports racer type things.

As I mentioned, in the Prepared rules, if its not listed in the book as something you can do, then you cant. The Modified rules read almost the opposite... they list a few things that you cant do (most of them safety related), but other than that, the sky's the limit. Prepared makes a lot of restricitions on the engine, wheel size, weight, chassis, body, etc... that the Modified rules dont.

Hows that?

Jason, did you see Chris O'Donnell's runs (D Mod Lotus Elan) yesterday? He is incredibly fast! Not just handling but I think his acceleration wipes the floor with SC'd S2K's.

Difference between Mod and Prepared is that in Mod you can use formula car suspension and any bodywork. You can use any engine in a car. You could use a Stook engine in an Catherham and run in D-Mod. You could use a Stook engine in a Formula-Atlantic chassis with a fiberglass Stook body on it and run D-Mod. You could put a v-8 in a Stook and run in E-Mod... basically Mod has very few limiting factors other than displacement.

However with Prepared, it's still certain cars and certain classes... you have to keep portions of the bodywork factory. The wheel sizes are specified, there are some other restrictions. It's a heavily modified class just like Mod, but Prepared is more structured... Mod is just a crazy run what you brung no holds barred category. I hope that makes some sense... if not, buy a rule-book from the SCCA and study it!

Chris' car squirts forward like a scalded dog. His G-force loads must be pretty high. And sure, it only has a passing similarity to an original Lotus. I didn't think his car was any noisier than Bob Mosso's RX7 (at 91-93 Typ. dB). Maybe I just don't like the rotary sound.

Yeah, I took the crossover but Rocky's M coupe beat me by 1 sec and he said he took the circle (probably lying ). Derrick's M3 took SK1 though by ANOTHER second (66.5 - ish). Rocky and Jerry Green are grumbing that he must be cheating (all our rides are classed AS). I'm not at top speed yet. It's my 2nd event in the S2K but at least I beat Jerry this time.

Did you find 3rd gear anywhere on course? Every time I rev'd out it would've cost too much time for a quick up-n-down. Might've been different on R-compounds.
