Default Help Identify my Saner Bar

Hi, I just bought an S2000, with plans to use it for BS autocross. I've also bought a used Saner bar from a guy who didn't know a whole lot about it (it came with his car, he put the stock one back). Upon further inspection, it appears this one has been modified at some point with a fourth hole and zerk fittings in the endlink brackets (score!).

I don't know what the endlinks are (stock Saner, upgraded, etc), but they ought to be replaced in any case. The spherical surfaces are pitted/rusting and there's play in the joints.

I'm trying to figure out what I can use for endlinks that will be as quiet and durable as possible. Is the common thing still to use parts from Mcmaster Carr? I've searched on the topic but to be honest the amount of info here on the various configurations of this bar over the last 8 years or so is a little overwhelming. Unfortunately, most of the threads I have read through are also full of broken images, and I haven't found much mention of actual dimensions in he discussions.

Thanks!
Josh

Hi Josh, you could try Bill Gendron at Small Fortune Racing, he might have endlinks that could fit. 413 267 0904

I'm pretty sure I have the new endlinks and they look the same as yours except not as old

Saner can supply new endlinks

The McMaster-Carr part number should be on the endlinks themselves.

I guess I wasn't clear about my question. I know where to buy new Saner endlinks, but if my bar has been modified and can use something better, I'd like to do that. I don't want to replace the endlink with exactly what I have, the previous owner said they clunked, and I'd rather use a stud type rod-end in the upper location. I am having a hard time finding specific info about what people are doing to modify these bars - the actual dimensions of the modified bar, part numbers of the upgraded endlinks, that sort of thing. This bar has clearly been modified, and I'm trying to find out what other people with modified Saner bars are typically using for endlinks and why.

The McMaster-Carr part #s the people are using (me included) are out there if you search for them. I don't have the part numbers handy.

What dimensions of the bar are you looking for, and why do you think it matters? Not sure what you are getting at with this question.

I'm sure the part numbers are out there, but I couldn't find posts that included them, and I was curious if anyone happened to remember them offhand. Remember I'm new to the site and maybe I don't know the magic keyword that will bring me to the thread that answers all of my questions.

As far as the bar dimensions - my bar has clearly been modified from original - there is a 4th hole, the bar has been machined to provide fastener clearance for that hole, etc. But what is a little confusing to me is that the endlinks I got with the bar appear to be the regular Saner endlink. I am wondering if my bar has possibly been machined for the 4th hole, but not machined to accept the typical Mcmaster-Carr endlinks. I would obviously just pull out the Mcmaster catalog and check the dimensions of the rod end against the dimension of the bar, but I don't know which rod end I am looking for. What's really weird to me is that several people reference the "mcmaster" endlinks in several threads on this site, but when I actually try to find part numbers, a picture, or a more detailed explanation, I always fail. Believe me, I DID search, and read through dozens of threads to get to this point.

Took me less than 1 min, but here you go.

If the 4th hole is the same diameter as the other three, like my saner is done, then you won't have any issues.

I did see that thread, but it was 7 years old and referred to a replacement endlink for the stock bar, so I didn't think it was what I was looking for.

So evidently what folks are using is just a standard 3/8-24 studded rod end, one male, one female, threaded together to make the endlink. Nothing really specific to the S2000 application, or any specific reason that they need to come from Mcmaster-Carr as far as I can tell. I did almost the exact same thing to make endlinks for my Miata with parts from Grainger.

The ~$20 that Mcmaster wants for the PTFE-lined unit in the link is quite high. Grainger has a similar (possibly the same, as Mcmaster does not identify their supplier) PTFE lined rod end for under $12. QA1 makes a really nice PTFE/Kevlar lined rod end in either Carbon Steel, Cro-moly, or Aluminum body. They list for $9-12 each depending on the material. I think I am going to use the QA1 Cro-moly ones if I can find them in stock anywhere.
